On Saturday July 20th, the PickleballChicks filled the gorgeous indoor pickleball courts at CORTE KW to the rafters! I mean look at this place!!
The Chick-Only energy was in high gear as competitors arrived ready to hit the courts, meet new peeps and flex their skills.
This is not your average Ladies-Only pickleball tournament, this is a PickleballChicks event where women come together to compete but also to support each other as we all become more fearless through the sheer bravery of getting into the arena and trying our best.
During the opening introductions, we gelled. We were all part of something that can feel a little scary (competition brings out those butterflies!) … but that uplifts, elevates and celebrates the unique and amazing power of women when they gather and stand as allies and friends.
The game format included 5 guaranteed pickleball games for each team in a 6 game round robin. Every team made the playoffs. Either in Pool A or Pool B. And once the whistle blew on the playoff games, the energy and determination really kicked into high gear.
Coming on strong in every single game were Dawn and Karin, a duo that powered their way all the way to the coveted (and kind of crazy) gold crowns and medals.
Right behind them were Vicki and Rosa who proudly walked away with silver. And in Pool B we saw epic battles with Christine and LuAnn being celebrated and coming out on top.
Every player, whether they were crowned or medalled … came out as winners. And this isn’t some Tim Hortons commercial or some sappy sound bite. PickleballChicks is based on the idea that when women compete, when they get loud, when they take up space, they become more fearless. And damn sister, the world needs more fearless chicks more than ever.
At the end of our time at CORTE KW on Saturday, I walked away jazzed. And grateful. Energized. Uplifted. I am so incredibly stoked to meet the Chicks, to get to know them, to cheer for them, just for being themselves.
I am truly humbled that so many Chicks align with my vision for PickleballChicks … a vision where Pickleball, (this crazy sport with little short paddles and a wiffleball), can bring people from all different walks of life together … as friends. As allies. As a safe place to try your best. A cool, happy place to win a crown and a deeply supportive place to totally fck up. When we’re together, we can win and lose at the same time … we’re Chicks, we can handle this duality.
