What a GREAT tournament, eh?

What a GREAT tournament, eh?

I can’t help myself, my Canadian “eh” is popping out all over the place as I’m ridiculously proud that the very first PickleballChicks event went off without a hitch on Saturday.

Without a hitch?

Really Sharon?

Didn’t the electricity go off for about 5 minutes during the semi-final games? Plunging the Hen House into total darkness other than a few tiny signs over the emergency exits?

Yes that happened.

But the electricity came back on, the lights sprang to life and the games continued.

Us Chicks can take this stuff in stride.

It takes more than a few minutes of darkness in a pickleball warehouse to ruffle our feathers.

I digress.

Let me tell you about the first Canadian PickleballChicks event …

The Chick energy was in high gear.

Chicks who had never competed in a tournament showed up and played amazing games.

There were dinks, drops, drives and wicked rallies.

And of course, there was laughter and tears.

It just wouldn’t be a PickleballChicks event without all of the above.

As the founder of PickleballChicks I was able to stand back and just feel the love.

There’s something unique and special about our events. They just FEEL GOOD.

It was a 12 team Round Robin, rally score, hard stop 15 and each team of Chicks got 6 games. Then we moved to semi-finals and finals where the Chicks went all out.

And best of all? They were getting cheered on by their fellow Chicks. It’s this support and love at every single Gold game we’ve hosted that gets me right here (I’m pointing to my heart right now!).

I couldn’t have done it without my PickleballChick helpers:

My sister Orley for manning the registration table like a freakin’ rockstar…and Penny, my talented daughter-in-law who played official photographer and video editor.

Of course, behind the Chicks are the Sidekicks … the guys who help make it happen:

Mike, who welcomed the Chicks with flair, kindness and efficiency.

Liam, my son who helped with wrist bands so we could keep Team #s straight.

Wil, my youngest son who was my runner and cheerleader.

And of course, Barry and Serge…the math guys, the keepers of the Leader Board and Score Table.

And a shout out to Audrey for kicking me in the Chick Butt … you’re amazing.

And a last thank you to all the fans who came to watch their Chicks compete. I loved watching you on the sidelines beaming with pride … offering encouragement … and being cheerleaders. Thank you for showing up.

As much as I’d love to bask in the fun and friendship of our first event, I’ve got to get my butt off this chair and organize the next one!
